What is the difference between Data Security and Data Privacy?

I found one very good line for the difference between data security and data privacy from one of the reports I studied, which had been prepared by President's Council of Advisers on Science and Technology (PCAST), United States of America (USA). The statement was, "Security deals with tomorrow's threats against today's platforms. That is hard enough. But privacy deals with tomorrow's threats against tomorrow's platforms since those platforms comprise not just hardware and software, but also new kinds of data and new algorithms”

We can say that security is some absolute term whereas privacy is the relative term. Suppose, we have a lock and few keys for that lock. Now, we have some important data which we want to lock. Whoever is having the key, only eligible for access to the data and no one else can get access to it. It means either you have an access to whole data or to none. However, in the case of privacy, we need to have stages of locks and more no of keys because we need to share some data with someone and some other data to someone else. Hence, we want to share data selectively which is the difficult issue.

Many people think that privacy and security are same. Other thinks that privacy is part of security. I don't know how to relate these terms mathematically but I believe that privacy issues are difficult to handle than security issues.

Problem with creating tables in Latex?

Latex provides a very good interface and is very helpful in creating documents and presentations. Many research journals are supporting Latex format. However, creating a table in Latex is really a very difficult issue for someone, who used to make it very easily in word or excel.

I found the very helpful website for creating tables "http://www.tablesgenerator.com/" you just need to create a table just like you create with the word or excel and its compatible latex code is being generated. just copy and paste this code and you are done with your tedious job of the coding table in Latex. It also provides support for the HTML and other formats.

Isn't it amazing? Try yourself and provide the reviews.

Review of the Book titled "The Immortals of Meluha"

"The Immortals of Meluha" is the first book from the Shiva Trilogy (a series of 3 books) by Amish Tripathi. Although I am not a big fan of Mythological stories, I like the story of this book and I am keen to read the next part.

Source: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0e/The_Immortals_Of_Meluha.jpg

One of my friend suggested me in 2010 to read this book but as I said earlier, I am not much interested in mythological stories. One more time she insisted and I bought the book in 2012 but just put it with my other books. This time in the Diwali vacation I accidentally found this book in my hand and thought to give it a try. As soon as I started reading it, I got more and more interest in it.

Amish has taken care of almost everything about Hindu religion and India. He tried his best to give very good English meaning to the typical Hindi words. I really appreciate his effort for that. I feel like, he spent to many words on describing the things and situation which need very lesser words, but it might be the writing style of mythological stories (otherwise how it can become this much thicker in size!!! ;) ).

Overall, it's very interesting book to read. It has nothing to do with religious things but connection with the real character make it more interesting. I like the maika system from this story. We should have that kind of system in India so that parents doesn't force their children to do what they wants them to do instead allow them to do what they are best at.

Return gift to the humanity (Importance of Giving)

Even after 3 years of this article, I am still donating whatever I can to the humanity. I hope this will inspire you too.

Today was my birthday but I received a great gift from god few days in advanced. I am really very grateful for it.

I inspired to write about the importance of giving from one of my friend and mentor Mr. Nishant Doshi. He always makes some donation and provides some voluntary contribution to the local social welfare organizations. He told me that he gets a great pleasure by doing these things. but the problem with him is he spends the money of birthday celebration party on this activities so his friends never get any party from him. Therefore, they get little angry on him( ;) ). But I feel it's about anyone's personal choice. I too get inspired from it, though I make donation two or three times a year and believes in the philosophy of making 1% donation of yearly earning though due to many circumstances always falls short of it but still I am happy that I am giving something back to the society.

Now I have decided that I will also contribute to the society on all my special days either with making the donation or performing some community service. Don't worry my friends I will not cut your share of the party but I request all of you that if you really want to gift me something, please make a donation of the same amount I will definitely get what I want from it.

Hope you understand my point. I found Vivekananda Kendra as very good Social Work Community and we can easily make the online contribution on their website. You will also get tax benefit under section 80G. This is just one example you may suggest others in the comments so that other people also come to know about it. Please beware of fraud NGOs.

So, give return gift to the humanity by making the contribution to the society which provides us lot of things and makes us what we are today.

Why traffic is one of the biggest issue in India?

I wrote following article few years back on my alternate blog at WordPress. Before going to actual article I want to put my recent remarks on it. Can you identify following images?
Source: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/OAsTI31E-io/maxresdefault.jpg

Source: http://is2.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple111/v4/7e/aa/b4/7eaab446-2239-6aba-7076-8c154f90737e/source/576x768bb.jpg

Yes, it is from one of the most famous video game of 90s' "The Road Fighter". Nowadays driving on Indian road has become like this game only. Cars in the picture are similar to cars on our roads, some are driving in any single lane an others are jumping around. Trucks in picture represents heavy vehicles on our road but their behavior changes while chasing a slop! The black pit shown in last image indicates the two and three wheeler which one need to take much care of . Though they are at loss in case of accident but still they don't care about it and drive like they are ready to die.

Now the original article...

Recently, I found huge traffic issues that's why I inspired to write about the issue. I am a frequent traveler, mostly by car. so it might possible that my views little biased towards car drivers but you may make comment if you disagree with any of my view-point.
I found the big issue with Indian driver is that, they think that they have the fastest vehicle in the world
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bugatti_Veyron_16.4_%E2%80%93_Frontansicht_(1),_5._April_2012,_D%C3%BCsseldorf.jpg
or they are the fastest driver in the world. but both are just myths!!!!

Source: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/33/Michael_Schumacher-I%27m_the_man_%28cropped%29.jpg
One more problem is, we always think that, I am the only person in this world whose time is more important so I need to be given priority in all the trafficking situation otherwise I will not allow anyone to pass on too. Sometimes you found that there is a 10 to 15 kilometers of traffic only because there is a road repairing work is in progress and only one lane is allowed to go but people from all the lanes try to push their vehicle and block the other lane vehicle. Can't we merge in a way of one from each lane? Instead we try to block other and then accident takes place and we face a very long traffic jam just because of silly mistake.

In six lane roads it is clearly mention that bus and trucks are not allowed in the fast lane which is on the extreme right side of the road but still bus and truck people are using this lane more often than the driving lane. In India we used make adjustment so let us adjust with bus truck driver to drive in the fast lane but at least they have to give priority to the small vehicles who has right on fast lane!!! Now bus truck people will defend themselves by saying that we are getting blocked by two and three wheeler and that is true but what about the second lane? You have all the place in the world in second lane and you may overtake when there is no vehicle in fast lane. The problem with truck driver is they feel that they are the faster than the truck just ahead of them so they try to overtake it but they don't understand that their speed difference is of 10 or 15 kph where for car driver it might be of double or more than double. My opinion about truck driver is good. They have more traffic sense then any of the other drivers in India.

Now let us discuss something about two wheeler, after the advertisement of pulsar the fastest Indian on road, they feel that they are the fastest people. In city its fine to be the fastest in narrower streets and heavy traffic but when you are on a highway you need to accept the fact that most of the vehicle around you have almost 10 times more powerful engine than yours!!!! Therefore, please allow other people to go by driving on extreme left of the road. Another problem with bikers is, they don't have or use rear view mirror! Bike companies are not fool to provide you two mirrors. Most of people don't have two mirrors. Most of have only one mirror and If anyway have two mirror they use the other one to see their face! I don't understand why you need to see your face while driving?

Why do we leave car drivers? They are also not innocent. They are also as guilty as any of the others. Car drivers have to keep patients and try to follow the traffic rules by asking for side. Though they have the most fastest vehicles they should not overtake from wrong side because that creates bad impression on other driver and he will not give side in future to someone else and then this cycle goes on and we have to drive like a snake on the road. Please drive safe and remember that there are many other lives dependent on your driving other than yours. Isn't it?

Review of the Book titled "The World's Best Inspiring Stories"

"The World's Best Inspiring Stories" by "G. Francis Xavier"

It's really a good book. have total of 100 stories most of it are of single page only. some may have scratched to two pages but most of them are very inspiring one. its like hearing a bed time stories of inspiration from our grand parents. all the parents need to gift this book to their children to make them inspire.

I am very much thankful to Marwadi Education Foundation Group of Institutions, for providing me such a good book for free.

Conversation with Lord Krishna

Me: I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic.

Lord Krishna: Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free.

Me: why has life become complicated now?

Lord Krishna: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. It makes it complicated.

Me: Why are we then constantly unhappy?

Lord Krishna: Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

Me: why do good people always suffer?

Lord Krishna: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer. With that experience their life becomes better, not bitter.

Me: You mean to say such experience is useful?

Lord Krishna: Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons afterwards.

Me: because of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading.

Lord Krishna: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides the way.

Me: Why does failure hurt more than moving in the right direction?

Lord Krishna: Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.

Me: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

Lord Krishna: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

Me: What surprises you about people?

Lord Krishna: When they suffer they ask, “why me?” When they prosper, they never ask “Why me?”

Me: How can I get the best out of life?

Lord Krishna: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Me : One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

Lord Krishna: There are no unanswered prayers.  Keep the faith and drop the fear.  Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Bottom line is "Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear." Everyone has past which they continuously regret of, They have present which they are not enjoying because of past and worrying about future which is uncertain. Therefore, I believe in enjoying the present because that is only matters. Isn't it?

Letter to god from a poor child

Thought for the day

Here I am sharing few inspirational lines:

Sometimes You are Unsatisfied with Your Life,
while many people in this world are Dreaming of Living Your Life,
A Child on a Farm sees a Plane fly overhead & Dreams of Flying,
But, A Pilot on the Plane sees the Farmhouse & Dreams of Returning Home.
That's Life!

If wealth is the secret to happiness, then the rich should be dancing on the streets.
But only poor kids do that.
If power ensures security, then officials should walk unguarded.
But those who live simply, sleep soundly.
If beauty and fame bring ideal relationships, then celebrities should have the best marriages.
But normal people have.
Live simply.
Walk humbly and Love genuinely!
All good will come back to you.

Enjoy Life...

14 short stories worth reading and feeling

I received all these stories as a message a few years back. I already shared it on my alternate blog. I found it interesting so here I am sharing it again.

1. Fall and Rise
Today, when I slipped on the wet tile floor a boy in a wheelchair caught me before I slammed my head on the ground.  He said, “Believe it or not, that’s almost exactly how I injured my back 3 years ago.

2. A father's advice
Today, my father told me, “Just go for it and give it a try!  You don’t have to be a professional to build a successful product.  Amateurs started Google and Apple.  Professionals built the Titanic

3. The power of uniqueness.
Today, I asked my mentor – a very successful businessman in his 70’s – what his top 3 tips are for success.  He smiled and said, “Read something no one else is reading, think something no one else is thinking, and do something no one else is doing.

4. Looking Back
Today, I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper I’m working on for my Psychology class.  When I asked her to define success in her own words, she said, “Success is when you look back at your life and the memories make you smile.

5. Try and U shall know
I am blind by birth. When I was 8 years old, I wanted to play baseball. I asked my father- "Dad, can I play baseball?" He said, "You'll never know until you try." When I was a teenager, I asked him, - "Dad Can I become a surgeon?". He replied, "Son, you'll never know until you try." Today I am a Surgeon, just because I tried!

6. GOODNESS & GRATITUDE
Today, after a 72-hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug.  When I tensed up, she realized I didn’t recognize her.  She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said, “On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Center.”

7. LOVE CONQUERS PAIN
Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying.  And just before he died, he licked the tears off my face.

8. A DOOR CLOSES TO OPEN ANOTHER
Today at 7AM, I woke up feeling ill but decided I needed the money, so I went to work. At 3PM I got laid off. On my drive home I got a flat tire. When I went into the trunk for the spare, it was flat too. A man in a BMW pulled over, gave me a ride, we chatted, and then he offered me a job.  I start tomorrow.

9. LOOKING BACK
Today, as my father, three brothers, and two sisters stood around my mother’s hospital bed, my mother uttered her last coherent words before she died. She simply said, “I feel so loved right now. We should have gotten together like this more often.”

10. AFFECTION
Today, I kissed my dad on the forehead as he passed away in a small hospital bed.  About 5 seconds after he passed, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy.

11. INNOCENCE
Today, in the cutest voice, my 8-year-old daughter asked me to start recycling. I chuckled and asked, “Why?” She replied, “So you can help me save the planet.”  I chuckled again and asked, “And why do you want to save the planet?” “Because that’s where I keep all my stuff,” she said.

12. JOY
Today, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter’s antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again.

13. KINDNESS
Today, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me.  He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, “I hope you feel better soon.”.

14. SHARING
Today, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe.  He said he hadn’t eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy.  Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was eating.  The first thing the man said was, “We can share it.”
Cheers to life.

Management never knows which employee actually deserves the appraisal!

There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat

One day, the horse became ill and he called the veterinarian, who said: Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the 3rd day and if he's not better, we're going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation.

The next day, they gave him the medicine and left.

The goat approached the horse and said: Be strong, my friend. Get up or else they're going to put you to sleep!

On the second day, they gave him the medicine and left.

The goat came back and said: Come on buddy, get up or else you're going to die! Come on, I'll help you get up.

Let's go! One, two, three...

On the third day, they came to give him the medicine and the vet said: Unfortunately, we're going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise, the virus might spread and infect the other horses.

After they left, the goat approached the horse and said: Listen, pal, it's now or never! Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up! That's it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two, three... Good, good. Now faster, come on...... Fantastic! Run, run more!

Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you're a champion!!!

All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting: It's a miracle!
My horse is cured.
We must have a grand party.
Let's Cook the goat!

Lesson:

Management never knows which employee actually deserves the appraisal.

Is plastic bag ban for the environment or new way of earning for mega stores?

I found the problem four years back and yet it is unanswered! For detailed problem analysis and solution read further...

I come across this question every time when I buy something from mega stores (malls)  and many of you might have. As there are no mega stores in my city I used to shop from mega stores in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, etc. therefore, it is not possible for me to carry my own carry bag all the time. In all these stores, nowadays started a trend of charging 3 to 10 Rs for various size of plastic bags which are the same they provide to their customers (us) for free in the past. I think this becoming the new way of earning for megastores.

so now the question arises is,
  • Why they are charging for the same quality plastic bag to save the environment?
  • How by charging this small amount they save the environment?
  • Do they really think that the person who shops for thousands of rupees is really cared of spending 3 or 10 rupees?
These are some of the questions I have with this initiative. I figure out the solution as well. If they really want to save environment they should use good quality paper bags ranging from 50-500 Rupees so plastic bag use can be stopped and even many people carry their own bags to save such a significant amount and if they want to pay that amount then also our problem has solved. Isn't it?

Comments Please........

Money is yours but Resources belong to Society...

I read this story a few years back and posted on my alternate blog. In our country, we find people who waste a lot of public resources such as, electricity, food, fuel, and space. I hope this story may help them to understand that although they are paying for it, they don't have right to waste it!

Germany is a highly industrialized country. In such a country, many will think its people live a luxurious life.

When I arrived at Hamburg, my colleagues walked into the restaurant, we noticed that lot of tables were empty. There was a table where a young couple was having their meal. There were only two dishes and two cans of beer on the table. I wondered if such simple meal could be romantic, and whether the girl will leave this stingy guy. There were a few old ladies on another table. When a dish was served, the waiter would distribute the food to them, and they would finish every bit of the food on their plates.

As we were hungry, our local colleague ordered more food for us.When we left, there was still about one-third of unconsumed food on the table. When we were leaving the restaurant, the old ladies spoke to us in English,  we understood that they were unhappy about us wasting so much food.

"We paid for our food, it is none of your business how much food we left behind," my colleague told the old ladies.

The old ladies were furious. One of them immediately took her phone out and made a call to someone. After a while, a man in uniform from Social Security organization arrived. Upon knowing what the dispute was, he issued us a 50 Euro fine. We all kept quiet.

The officer told us in a stern voice, "ORDER WHAT YOU CAN CONSUME, MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN THE WORLD WHO ARE FACING SHORTAGE OF RESOURCES. YOU HAVE NO REASON TO WASTE RESOURCES."

The mindset of people of this rich country put all of us to shame. WE REALLY NEED TO REFLECT ON THIS. We are from the country which is not very rich in resources. To save the image, we order the large quantity and waste food when we give others a treat.

THIS INCIDENT TAUGHT US A LESSON TO THINK SERIOUSLY ABOUT CHANGING OUR BAD HABITS.

"MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY."

Leadership does matter

Few days back I found a superb quote by Napoleon Bonaparte in Gujarati version:

English Translation:

"If you train an army of 100 lions, appoint a dog as its leader and go to war, all the lions will die like dogs...
But ...
If you train an army of 100 dogs, appoint a lion as its leader and go to war, all the dogs will fight like lions."

I liked the quote a lot and decided to find the original English version of it. Finally, I found it today, "An Army of lions commanded by a deer will never be an army of lions."

Both of these versions are pointing towards the leadership quality. History says that there are extra ordinary leaders born and led ordinary army to the victory. It also happens that you have the best army in the world but due to weak leader your army faces loss. Examples are in movies such as, troy and 300. We can also find the leaders (group leader) and army (group of people) around us which suffers because of weak leader who does not want to fight for his army. Even he does not allow his army to fight on their own. He might think that if in any case my army wins the battle without my leadership then people might put question mark on my leadership. As a result leader's top most position might be in danger. Therefore, most of the leaders nowadays never encourage their army.

I also analyze that, there are two kinds of leaders, one who goes up and pull his people up so everyone found (accept) him as the leader and the other, who pushes down his people to be on top and show everyone on top that he is the leader. Around us we have a lot of leader from second category than the first one.

If you want to be a leader than try to be the leader of your team (people working under you) not of the people working on top of you. Because if they found someone better than you, they will surely change you but your team will always respect you as the leader.
 Isn't it?

Shit Story

I read this story few years back and it was also mentioned in the movie "Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap".

A bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually throwing him out. He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung and promptly dug him out and ate him!

Moral of the story:
  1. NOT EVERYONE WHO DROPS SHIT ON YOU IS YOUR ENEMY.
  2. NOT EVERYONE WHO GETS YOU OUT OF SHIT IS YOUR FRIEND.
  3. AND WHEN YOU ARE IN DEEP SHIT, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

Thought for the day - 03/12/2017

  • Be nice to the people on your way up because you meet them on your way down. - Jimmy Durante
We all have to understand the quote. We are in a habit of ignoring the people who are working with us at the primary level and may have their contribution to our success. We think that whatever I have achieved is only and only my due to my hard work but that is not true. For example, if you get the promotion as a team leader, you have got new authority and responsibilities for sure but you have to remember that you are a team leader only and only because of your team members. No one can become a leader without being a member. However, most of the leaders forget that they were members once. When leaders demoted to the member, they have no way out. Isn't it?

Science Open Collection on "Big Data Privacy"

ScienceOpen Collections are thematic groups of preprints and peer-reviewed research papers drawn from a variety of publishers and journals. One can find the collection of papers of any relevant area from different publishers at a single place. We have also created a ScienceOpen Collection on "Big Data Privacy". I am requesting all my readers to help me to maintain it.

My journey of collection creation was started on January 26, 2017, when I received an e-mail with the subject line, "call for collection editors" from ScienceOpen. The first thought strikes my mind was, "Am I really eligible for this opportunity?" but then my heart said, "There is nothing to lose in trying!". So, I replied to the mail in one line, "I am interested to become a collection editor. Kindly send the further details". Fortunately, I received the positive response from ScienceOpen. I am really grateful to Mr. Daniel Cook, who not only guided me but worked with me at every stage of our collection. Without his help, I may not be able to create this collection. Then we had communication for about a month on topics related to editorial to research papers. Finally, on February 20, 2017, we officially made our collection public.

My intention of creating such collection was to help my peer researchers in finding the related research at one place. I believe that it is difficult for one or two persons to maintain such a collection. Therefore, I am requesting all the readers to help me in all possible ways such as, writing a review of any paper in the collection, and providing links to relevant papers.

Thanks in advance...

P.S.
  1. We can only add papers which are already available on ScienceOpen, however, as an editor I can request ScienceOpen to add those papers.
  2. I also require co-editors for our collection who can help us to maintain it.
